- Acrostic on ‘Jonathan FeBland’ by Roger Perrin
Just
a few lines to explain,
Of
my poems, and things in that vein;
Not
a week will go by,
At
which I do not try,
To
write lines. Then I'm at it again.
Having
all of the practice you see,
A
high standard, impressive to thee;
Now
if you tried you would,
Find
that one day you could,
Even
write better poems than me.
But
writing acrostics is tough,
Looks
like I have said quite enough;
A way
to pad out,
Near
the end is to spout,
Dubious,
meaningless stuff.
"Amongst contemporary British composers, a name to look
out for is that of Jonathan FeBland. He has been described as the natural
successor to Eric Coates and the other composers in the English light music
tradition. But his music is certainly not lacking in imagination or style. We
are planning the first ever commercial recording of a series of "Miniatures"
for solo instruments and piano by Jonathan, works which are already attracting
praise from musicians. Joseph Horowitz says of these pieces: "they are
charming and effective and very professionally composed - a rare event these
days." We anticipate that the CD will probably be entitled 'Preludes &
Miniatures'..........it will feature pianist Louis Alvanis in FeBland's
complete Preludes, and Alvanis will accompany several instrumental
soloists in the Miniatures. Further news to follow soon."
